# Links

Links are an essential part of helping viewers navigate Standards sites. Set internal links to navigate pages, anchor links to jump to different contents on a page, and external links to point to other sites.

## Basics

There are various types of links, all accessed in one place from the **On click** menu of the in-body toolbar that appears when an element is selected.

### Types of links

* **Link to page » Section** Navigates to another page of your Standards site. Additionally, a content section may be set to create an anchor link.
* **Anchor links** See above **Link to page** & **Jump to.**
* **Link to URL** Navigates to another web URL.
* **Download file** Links to a file in the project files for download.
* **Email** Automatically opens default email app and pre-fills the to address.

## Creating a link

Links are typically added to **text** and **buttons**, but can be set on **media**, **dropdowns**, and more elements.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select element to recieve link">
    Within the design editor, select the element layer from the contents list in the left sidebar or within the page body.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set click behavior">
    Select the click button (cursor clicking icon) from the contextual toolbar
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose link type">
    Choose the intended link type from the **behaviors** list. Follow the additional steps specific to each link type.

## Link styles

Links applied to **text** have specific styling that is managed with the usage of **link styles**. Every text link must use a style, and it’s typical that numerous styles are created for different needs

### Choosing a link style

Within the steps outlined above, select the style from the **click** settings inside the contextual toolbar

### Editing a link style

    From the **Styles** tab in the right sidebar, select the link style item to open the edit view

  <Step title="Modify style">
    Modifying a link style in this way will apply to everything site-wide that uses the associated style.

### Manage link styles

Actions such as edit, duplicate, rename, and delete are accessed by right clicking the link style or selecting the settings icon (3 dots).
